Research Experience
- Vision Science, University of California, Berkeley.
Projects: Developing image processing algorithms and software for corneal topography. Visual evoked potential (VEP) dipole source localization. Optimization of local Laplacian (second derivative) operator for use in processing recorded scalp potentials. Studying human visual processing and cognition using VEP. - Neurometrics Institute, Berkeley, CA.
Designed and implemented image processing algorithms for various clinical and research applications. Worked briefly on distributed processing software for analyzing evoked potential data. - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of California, San Francisco.
Designed and carried out experiments to identify, clone and localize cell surface proteins that play a role in sensory transduction. Well trained in various molecular biology techniques such as Blotting (Norther, Sothern and Western), PCR, DNA Sequencing, Expression Cloning, In Situ Hybridization, Cell Culture, Cell Hybridization and Recombinant DNA. Played a key role in designing and establishing a novel delivery protocol for antisense oligodeoxynucleotides to block pain trasduction (see Publications section). - Department of Pharmacology, University of California, San Francisco.
Role of beta-catenin, which is cytoplasmic protein that binds to E-cadherin (a cell-cell adhesion receptor), in regulation of cell adhesion. - Department of Pathology, University of California, Davis.
Assisted in construction of a recombinant plasmid containing gp 130 coding sequence in which the leader sequence was replaced with a TPA (Tissue Plasminogen Activator) leader. This construct was used to express large amounts of gp 130 in the CHO cell lines.
